Using SlideShare to Increase Your Visibility

By on Jun 18, 2015

Being visible to business owners who are researching insurance information online is a key component to networking in today’s world. LinkedIn is the primary business-networking platform.

A few years ago, I wrote a five-part series on how to maximize your LinkedIn presence. You can access that series here.

Today, I want to highlight how you can use SlideShare as a tool that will help you become more visible.

SlideShare started with a simple goal: To share knowledge online. Since then, SlideShare has grown to become the world’s largest community for sharing presentations and other professional content. Think of SlideShare as YouTube, but for slideshows.

Using SlideShare for visibility

The site started in October 2006 and was acquired by LinkedIn in May 2012. SlideShare is used for searching and viewing business media such as documents, PDFs, and slide presentations. It is a community consisting of professionals from various industries, where people can register and upload their business content.

There is a large amount of information on insurance topics available on the site. A search for “cyber insurance” returns 247 results. It is likely that some of these presentations contain valuable information you could use to sell this coverage to your clients.

Anyone can upload files privately or publicly in the following formats: PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote, or OpenDocument presentations. These presentations can then be viewed on the website, handheld devices, or embedded in other sites.

As a marketing tool, SlideShare helps improve your search engine rankings. By generating and posting quality content, your search engine ranking will increase and drive more traffic to your website.

The most captivating SlideShare presentations present valuable information to their readers. How-to posts, webinars, and top 10 lists generally have higher viewership. These types of presentations are also easy to share on social media. Images and video clips enhance your SlideShare content and make it more interesting for your viewers.

The presentations you post have to be on a specific focus that’s related to your particular area of expertise and should include a call-to-action that directs viewers to your website. SlideShare presentations can be another tool you can use to generate good quality leads.

Because LinkedIn now owns SlideShare, you can easily include any presentation on the SlideShare platform within your LinkedIn profile. You can also include SlideShare presentations within a status update and any articles you post. This is another great way to visually engage with individuals.

In addition to the marketing opportunities that SlideShare provides, you can also use the platform as a research tool to find information on particular insurance questions.

SlideShare is a great tool that will help you increase your visibility online, demonstrate your expertise, and engage with potential prospects and current clients in a new and different way.

How have you used SlideShare? Let me know in the comment section below.
