Is Your Website Up?

By on Apr 1, 2010

As your agency website becomes more important for marketing and customer service, it’s important to make sure that it’s actually available to those who wish to access it.

Computer servers sometimes stop working, and agency website access is not always 100%. There are services available that will monitor your site (or your blog) to make sure it is accessible. When there’s a problem, the service will send you an e-mail or text notification.

One such service I have been testing is Pingdom.com. It tests a number of parameters, including whether or not your DNS is properly responding, your server is alive, and your site is responding. If any of these tests fail, you are alerted immediately by e-mail or text message.

You can be the first to find out about network outages, server outages, server overload, DNS configuration, or SSL certificate problems so you can have the problem corrected as soon as possible.

You can add as many sites and users as you like and can tailor default, backup, and emergency alert schedules to your preferences. There is a limited free account available. Paid services start at $10 per month.
